Voters turn out to the polls with record numbers this year for class rep elections

The Class rep elections were held last week in what has been deemed the most successful year yet. A total of 270 reps were elected. The highest turnout was in Senior Freshmen Science, where 60% of the course voted. The lowest turnout was in Junior freshmen Music, where nobody voted. There were surprising fills in courses such as Biblical and Theological Studies, yet for Junior Freshmen History, where there should normally be two reps, only one was elected as nodody else went for the other position.

Controversially there were reports of negative campaigning in the JF Engineering election. Chair of Electoral Commission Pauline Byrne stated “ we received a few complaints, investigated the situation and reached a conclusion which we believed to be fair to all parties involved and one which was based on precedent.”

Education Officer Ashley Cooke said that he was; “delighted with the number of class reps that we have got. I’m looking forward to working with them and can’t wait to see the enthusiasm that got them elected be used to represent class reps.”
