On January 31st, 13 Trinity students from Dublin University (DU) Trampoline Club competed at the Pleasance Sports Complex in Edinburgh in the Scottish Students Trampoline Open (SSTO), taking home top prizes, including:
1st place in Trampoline Advanced Ladies (Saoirse O’Gorman)
1st place in Double Mini Trampoline (DMT) Intervanced Men (Tomas McNamara)
1st place in Synchronised Trampoline (Synchro) Level One (Zoe Young Elliott and Veronika Zavatska)
2nd place in Trampoline Intermediate Ladies (Zoe Young Elliott)
2nd place in DMT Intermediate Ladies (Eva McDonnell)
3rd place in DMT Intervanced Ladies (Lena Hammerschmidt)
The event is organised by Scottish Student Trampolining, and the Open, with over 500 students competing from across the UK and Ireland, is the flagship event of the Scottish Student Games.
The schools represented other than Trinity in the SSTO included the University of Edinburgh, University College Cork, University College Dublin, St Andrews, the University of Limerick, the University of Lancashire, the University of Strathclyde, the University of Bath, the University of Glasgow, the University of Nottingham, Queen’s University Belfast, Maynooth University, the University of Hull, the University of Aberdeen, the University of Dundee, Newcastle University, Edinburgh Napier University, and Loughborough University.
In a statement to the University Times, DU Trampoline Captain Benjamin Howard said: “It was so good to see everyone doing their best with both competing and supporting each other throughout the weekend. We’re all so so proud of everyone who went and we’re looking forward to keeping our positive momentum for Colours in March.”
