On the 24th of January, Trinity Sailing, represented by students Sam Ledoux, Georgia Goodbody, Trevor Bolger, Conor Lynch, Harry Twomey, and Orla Gilroy, competed in the Oxford Top Gun Invitational. Trinity Sailing achieved first place for the first time ever and became the second Irish team to win, earning an invitation to return next year to defend their title.
The race took place on the Farmoor Reservoir, with eight teams vying for the title (including local rival UCD). Trinity Sailing raced in an all-Irish best-of-5 final against UCD, winning the first 3, and ultimately claiming the title. The UCD team was represented by Conor Gorman, Lily O’Dwyer, Jacques Murphy, Kate O’Connor, Archie Daly, and Emily Khan.
The event was hosted by Oxford University Sailing Club over two days and was sailed in a three-round round-robin format, where each crew had to complete 21 races over the weekend.
The Top Gun Invitational is the most prestigious university team racing event in the UK and Ireland.
