In the Dublin City University (DCU) Ladies Cricket Tournament 2026, the first ever Irish all-ladies intervarsity cricket tournament that took place on January 24th, 2026, in DCU St. Patrick’s Campus Indoor Hall, Dublin University Ladies Cricket Club (DULCC) picked off the champion by winning every match in the tournament. The tournament has three one-hour rounds in total, and DULCC competed against ladies teams from DCU and University College Dublin (UCD) in the qualifying round, respectively, then competed against University of Galway in the final round.
According to team captains Keeva Vickers and Anna Whelan, DULCC won the qualifying round smoothly, but the round against University of Galway was intense. Despite encountering a strong opponent, DULCC won on the last ball of the game, with University of Galway chasing its total of 93.
Out of the team’s eight excellent participants, Georgina Dempsey won the best batter award with a high score of 66 in 1 innings and total runs of 83 throughout the tournament – the award could be the first silverware DULCC has won in at least 30 years. The position “batter” in cricket is the player who is currently hitting the ball with a bat to score runs and prevent the loss of their wicket during the inning.
Overall, DULCC performed outstandingly in the inaugural event DCU Ladies Cricket Tournament 2026 and it shall continue to thrive in the future.
