Five Under €10: Valentine’s Day Sweet Treats

The best spots in Dublin for a cute date this Valentine's Day.

Lorna ReidFood & Drink Editor

Love is in the air, or maybe it’s just sugar and another horrendous Fifty Shades of Grey movie. It probably is sugar, judging by the scrumptious collection of baked goods below that will be available around town as we get closer to February 14th.

Queen of Tarts, on Cow’s Lane & Dame St

Living up to its name, Queen of Tarts will be offering a range of cakes and treats for Valentine’s Day, such as heart-shaped cookies, red velvet cupcakes, chocolate and raspberry tarts and vegan death-by-chocolate cake. Various other decadent treats will be available on the day but have yet to be decided by the Queen pastry team. Cupcakes are €2.95 each and the rest of the cakes are €5.50.

Bretzel Bakery Buttery Biscuits on Lennox St, Portobello

An oldie but a goldie. Bretzel is keeping it simple, serving up buttery, heart-shaped shortbread biscuits for €1.50. Perfectly paired with a cup of tea, choose between a plain or a jam biscuit. A perfect treat to woo your loved one with.

The Icing on the Cake, Dolce Sicily on Dawson St

Nothing screams “I love you” like an authentic Italian, chocolate-covered, heart-shaped sponge cake, filled with layers of custard and raspberry jam. Alternatively, if you are of the fruity persuasion, Dolce Sicily will be selling heart-shaped fresh fruit tarts. Prices start at €5.

“I Adough You!” Offbeat Donuts at Pearse Station & George’s Quay

Offbeat Donuts are changing things up a little from February 12th to 14th by giving their doughnuts some extra loving! You can buy a box of three doughnuts for €6 to “say it with donuts”. I think they are better than flowers anyway.

Chocolate Love Hearts, Emily’s Pantry in Citywest

Fool that someone special into thinking you are cool and classy by splashing out on these gorgeous and delicate dark chocolate truffle hearts. Although they are rich, these chocolates are adorned with a chocolate mousse and fresh raspberries, making them light and refreshing. Emily’s Pantry also offer a delivery service to the city centre free of charge. Technically, this gift box comes in over budget, at €12, but I personally think that they are a worthy exception.
