The GMB will host the 'Night at Hogwarts' event.

Earlier this evening, Trinity Literary Society (Lit Soc) announced “A Night at Hogwarts”, a Harry Potter-themed event taking place on February 16th in the Graduates Memorial Building.

The society drummed up some interest in the event last night with the posting of cryptic messages on various Trinity Facebook pages, including on the Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union and Central Societies Committee pages. The images posted – under the guise of a hack – made reference to a “crisis” for muggles, with the posts tagged with #MugglesOut and #DarkAndDifficultTimesLieAhead. The posts also called for the re-instatement of both the Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore’s Army, suggesting that the night will have some sort of a surprise in store.

Last year saw the 20th anniversary of The Philosopher’s Stone’s release, and the franchise shows no signs of stopping anytime soon, with new editions of the series released every few years, as well as copious films and plays.

This is by no means the first wizarding world event in Trinity’s history. Trinity Sci-Fi Society’s Freshers’ Week Harry Potter quizzes always fill to the brim, the Irish Quidditch World Cup qualifiers were held on campus last month and, just last week, Dr Jane Carroll from the School of English gave a public talk on the series and its continuing success. The College also received some international attention in 2015, following the Hogwarts Express-themed mystery tour organised by then Ents officer Katie Cogan.

This event seems to be setting itself apart from the others, full details of which will surely be unveiled itself as time goes on.

Tickets are on sale in the Arts Block on Wednesday 7th February and Thursday 8th of February.
