It’s the second day of freshers’ week and we’re all feeling a bit sensitive after the madness that was yesterday (and last night). Here are your society top picks for the day ahead.

Giant Twister

If you’re feeling a bit fragile after the first night of Freshers, why not join DU Players and members of the Voluntary Tuition Programme (VTP) for a refreshing game of Giant Twister in the Rose Garden? Opportunities to bond with fellow freshers, music, prizes and good vibes are all promised, with the game beginning at 2pm.

Puppy Room

Dublin University Historical Society (the Hist) will welcome freshers with an undoubtedly wonderful puppy room in the GMB at 12.30pm. Last year’s event was full of cuddles, love and dog-lovers bonding over the cuteness of it all.

Roddy Doyle visits the Phil

Dublin University Philosophical Society (the Phil) will present the Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage of the University Philosophical Society to much-loved Irish writer Roddy Doyle. Doyle has won numerous awards as an Irish novelist, dramatist and screenwriter. His most famous works include “The Snapper”, “The Van”, “Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha” and “The Woman Who Walked Into Doors”. His most recent novel, “Smile”, was met with critical acclaim upon its release in 2017. The ceremony will take place in the chamber of the Graduates Memorial Building (GMB) at 1pm.

Law Soc Comedy Debate

The motion for this year’s Law Society comedy debate is “This House believes there’s more to life than being really really ridiculously good looking”. Attendees are to expect an hour of Zoolander references, students verbally duelling some of Ireland’s top stand-up comics and, most importantly, free pizza. The comedy debate will be held in the debating chamber of the GMB at 3pm.

Freshers Night ‘Around the World’

Trinity VDP, DU Players and the Phil will collaborate to bring freshers around the world in 80 minutes with a super fun night out with an international twist. The themed adventure will begin with VDP as Paris in The Hist’s room, continuing to Havana in the Phil’s conversation room and finally DU Players will represent Tokyo. Trinity Ents will host Cabarave at Tramline afterwards where the party is set to continue. Berets at the ready!
