On the night of October 28th, Tringe.org (Instagram @Tringe.App), a dating website just for Trinity students, went live. The interface is similar to the popular dating app Hinge, and only those with Trinity emails can register. Users swipe on and match with each other or respond to prompts. The website has been up for less than a day, and there are currently five active users.
Speaking to The University Times, the creator of the app, Max G, said his inspiration for the site came from a post on the popular confessions account Tringe, despite not being associated with the Instagram account itself. The post said, “Can there be a dating app made just for Trinity […]”. Max G said that when he saw the post, he thought, “I could make this pretty easily”, so he did. The website is currently free to use, and Max G said, “There’s no profit motive here”. The Instagram bio of @Tringe.App reads “yes, it’s real. yes, it’s free. yes, it cost me €7 to make. Tringe, the app. By Trinners, for Trinners”.
Users are asked for six photos, the answer to three prompts, their gender, sexuality, and languages. The profile must include age, height, and location, and may include occupation and drug and alcohol habits. Users are also asked for their course, as all users are Trinity students.
Max G said the most unique thing about Tringe.org is the “Missed Connections” feature, where people can post about people they met once and find each other. Max G said this was inspired by Tringe Instagram posts, where people say things like “I saw a cute guy in the Arts Block in a red scarf on Tuesday at 3pm, find him”, where the subject then messages the Tringe account seeking the anonymous confessor. Max G said this was “inefficient” and said the Missed Connections feature on the app sought to streamline the process for people, saying, “Instead of having to sort through a billion Tringe posts, it’s right in front of you”.
When asked what he expected out of the website, Max G said, “I’m not expecting anything”, adding, “It was kind of a fun idea, I had fun making it, if people want to use it, that would be cool”. Max G also said anyone who experiences problems with the website can directly message the Instagram @Tringe.App or his personal Instagram account, adding, “I hope people enjoy using it”.
Tringe.org is also offering the first two people to match on the app €50 for their date, requiring a photo of the two users, proof they met on the app, and a receipt.
