The results of the referendum on confidence in the government, which students were able to vote in this week, were announced at the Pavilion Bar at 6:30pm this Friday, November 28th. The referendum passed with a clear majority. 2,790 valid votes were received. 1,978 students voted yes in the referendum, while 812 students voted no. 129 students abstained. 70.9 per cent of the votes were therefore in favour of the motion.
This is the first time students have voted for the Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU/AMLCT) to take the position of no confidence in the government. The referendum was posed in light of growing dissatisfaction regarding government policy. The motion required 60 per cent of students to vote in favour.
