Nominations for the Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU/AMLCT) sabbatical officers and University Times Editor are open until noon on January 30th. The election will take place from February 25th to 27th, and the campaign period will run from February 16th at 10am to February 27th at 4pm. An information session will be held the week of January 26th for prospective candidates.
The positions available for nomination include President, Education Officer, Welfare and Equality Officer, Communications and Marketing Officer, Entertainments Officer (Ents), Oifigeach na Gaeilge, Editor of the University Times, and the newly created Graduate Officer.
TCDSU has encouraged prospective candidates to reach out to the current officers, including President Grace McNally, president@tcdsu.org; Education Officer Buster Whaley, education@tcdsu.org; Welfare and Equality Officer Deirdre Leahy, welfare@tcdsu.org; Communications and Marketing Officer, communications@tcdsu.org; Entertainments Officer Orla Norton, ents@tcdsu.org; Oifigeach na Gaeilge Aoife Ní Bhriain, gaeilge@tcdsu.org; and University Times Editor Charlie Hastings, editor@universitytimes.ie. The position of Graduate Officer was established in a referendum last semester, so whoever is elected will be the first to hold the position.
All capitated students are eligible to run for officer positions and can nominate themselves via a Google Form available in the weekly TCDSU email. All candidates must appoint a campaign manager and have their nomination supported by ten capitated students. Candidates must also pay a refundable €25 deposit to the Secretary to the Electoral Commission (EC). If a student is unable to pay the deposit or affiliated reimbursable campaign costs, they may contact the Education Officer (email above) or the chair of the EC (chair@tcdsu.org). Relevant bank details are available in the weekly email.
All candidates will be announced on TCDSU social media and on the steps of Teach 6 at 5pm on January 30th, after which all candidates and campaign managers are required to attend an election briefing at 6pm.
