At 8:13pm, the results for the next Entertainments (Ents) Officer of Trinity College Dublin’s Student Union’s (TCDSU/AMLCT) were announced. Finn Hallwood took a narrow lead with 1816 votes on the first count, making up 50.02 per cent of the votes cast. Kitaev received 1624 votes, making up 44.7 per cent of the votes. Re-Open Nominations (RON) received 190 votes.
This result confirms the results of the University Times election polls, which had predicted Hallwood’s close win with 53.2 per cent of the votes, with Kitaev receiving 40.1 per cent, and RON 6.7 per cent of poll votes.
Accepting his win Hallwood said that “this has been something I’ve been working on for the past year”, presumably referencing his failed campaign in last year’s sabbatical election for the same position.
Hallwood’s campaign included making live music more prominent on campus, and increasing Union events held for charitable causes.
“I am on cloud nine”, said Hallwood, in a statement to the University Times, “Danila, I love him. He’s so incredibly lovely and if I didn’t get in, Ents would be in stable hands anyway.”
