On the 12th of February, Trinity College Dublin announced the Trinity Executive Education was to provide a senior leadership development programme for An Garda Siochana. Trinity Executive Education received this appointment after a public tendering process from which Trinity was chosen.
Trinity’s Executive Education programme creates and delivers customized programmes for leadership and development at both the mid-level and the advanced level. They deliver these programmes across Ireland and Europe. This package is being utilized for the Garda Executive Leadership Programmes (GELP) in order to train leaders in the police service across the country.
An Garda Síochána Commissioner Justin Kelly visited the Trinity Business School to sign a contract appointing them to deliver the leadership programme. This programme is said to be delivered over the course of the next four years. Kelly, speaking on the GELP said: “An Garda Síochána personnel are highly educated, not least because they have the opportunity to avail of many development opportunities throughout their career with An Garda Síochána. I am very pleased that we can now add this NFQ Level 9 qualification from Trinity Business School to the suite of educational opportunities available to Garda members and staff.”
According to the Director of Executive Education, Michael Flynn said “Leveraging our experience in designing and delivering public leadership development programmes here in Ireland and abroad, including in policing, Trinity Executive Education are delighted to partner with An Garda Síochána in this important initiative.”
The programme is set to support the ongoing transformation of the Garda service. GELP will be focusing on “ethical leadership, governance, accountability, innovation, and public service excellence. It is designed to equip senior leaders with the skills and insight required to lead effectively in a complex and evolving policing and public service environment.” Additionally, the programme is supposed to go hand-in-hand with national reforms and modernization of the country as a whole.
