A collision has shut down Abbey Street and halted Red Line Luas service between Smithfield and The Point. The incident occurred around 1.25pm on April 1st at the junction between Abbey Street and O’Connell Street in Dublin.
The accident was attended by ambulances, the fire brigade, and An Garda Síochána who have now left the scene. Road users are still advised to avoid the area due to delays. The Red Line Luas is currently only operating from Tallaght to Saggart and Connolly to The Point.
According to the Irish Times, the Gardaí described the crash, which involved a cement truck, as “serious”. Eye witnesses at the scene alleged that an individual was run over by the vehicle in front of the John Gray monument. These claims have not yet been officially verified.
The University Times has reached out to An Garda Síochána for further information.
This is a developing story.
