A scheduled power outage will affect campus today, September 1st between 3.00 to 6.00 PM. A college spokesperson has clarified that only buildings on Front Square, including Teach a Sé, the Dining Hall, and student housing will be impacted by the blackout. The rest of Campus will remain unaffected, though some student services – such as the Global Room – will close from 3pm onwards
As general lighting, sockets and mechanical plant systems will lose power, Trinity Estates and Facilities have advised that offices be vacated for the duration of the outage – although it is unlikely that the repair work will last the full three hours. All safety systems including fire alarms, intruder alarms and emergency lighting will remain fully operational.
The outage will take place in order to carry out essential repair works on a fireman’s switch on the electrical panel installed last May. A full shutdown of approximately three hours is required to resolve this problem.
The power outage has been scheduled since at least August 14th when staff were informed. Students have not received direct communications regarding the disruptions and information has been sparse. In addition, no notice of the partial campus blackout has been posted to the Trinity Estates and Facilities service announcements.
Today’s power disruption is in no way related to last week’s blackout, which swept Campus on Friday evening.
