A statement released on the 27th of September by Academia for Palestine TCD (AFPTCD) addressed Israel’s attack on Lebanon and the College’s response to the military escalation.

Following recent attacks and bombardment of Lebanon by Israeli forces, AFPTCD stated that they were disappointed by the continual postponement of promised action that ended the student encampment in May.

AFPTCD also noted that they were aware of an email circulated to Lebanese students by College but did not clarify what was said in the communication. They went on to condemn the “woefully insufficient” response to the violence in Lebanon and criticised College’s actions. While the College emailed Lebanese students, AFPTCD stated that this communication gives little support to and does not reach all colleagues who are affected by the emerging war.

The group further called on College to “end its complicity in Israel’s apartheid, occupation and genocide in Palestine and to sever all ties with Israeli institutions and companies immediately”.

No particular companies or institutions were named in the statement.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, Israel has killed more than 700 people, including 50 children and 94 women, in air strikes it conducted across Lebanon since September 23.
