Yesterday evening students received an email from Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU), supposedly informing them about the ending voting period for a Union election. However, when clicking on the link provided, it became apparent that this was a mishap – voting closed in March.
The referendum that the email drew attention to is the AMLÉ (Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn, formerly USI) election that happened earlier this year. In March, students were asked to vote for a candidate to be endorsed for the AMLÉ presidency. AMLÉ is the national body of student unions. The election in March had been won by Daniel Walsh, who now serves as president.
Another email was sent out this morning, apologising for the error, and clarifying that voting for the election had long closed. It also noted that elections for class representatives would open tomorrow, 30th September, at 10 am. The email was sent out by mi-voice, the electoral service provider used by the Union, on behalf of the TCDSU.
