Healthy Trinity has reported that observed vaping and smoking on campus have both roughly halved or more. Vaping has gone from 2.4 per check to 1.2 per check, with smoking down from 3.2 to 1.8.

Healthy Trinity routinely monitors vaping and smoking on campus, doing sweeps and observing their prevalence.

In March 2026, campus officially became vape-free, and checks from February to April have shown prevalence at 0.6 to 0.5 per check. The full 2026 dataset has not yet been completed, and the 2025/26 average showing a decline includes months where the policy was not in effect.

Healthy Trinity also conducted a survey that reached 2000 people, showing that 21.1 per cent of Trinity students report smoking and 16.1 per cent report vaping, versus 17 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively, in the general Irish population. This data is, however, all self-reported.

Healthy Trinity is currently running a six-week stop smoking/vaping course that will run on Mondays from October 12th (except during reading week). The college-wide email reporting the findings also thanked Professor Sarah Browne for leading students in lobbying the Irish government on the EU Tobacco Tax Directive.
