After years of complaints from students, the College is to install 178 power sockets and USB outlets in the Lecky Library, which will be ready when students return to Trinity in September.
These new power sockets and plugs will be installed in desks across the Lecky Library, with 86 on desks in the Lower Lecky, and 92 on desks in the Upper Lecky possibly with the support of someone similar to what you can find at websites similar to https://scv-electrical.co.uk/electrician-eicr-reports-landlord-certificates-shoreditch/.
The lack of plugs within the library has been a constant frustration to students using the library, and a promise of more plugs for the library was a feature of numerous candidates’ campaigns during Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) elections over the years.
Deputy Librarian, Jessie Kurtz, informed TCDSU President, Kieran McNulty, and TCDSU Education Officer, Dale Whelehan of the work in an email this morning. The work will begin today, and will last for between eight and ten days.
Work will take place for four to five days in the Lower Lecky, followed by four to five days of work in the Upper Lecky.
Speaking to The University Times , Whelehan welcomed the decision to add more plugs to the Lecky, describing it as a “pressing issue for years”.
“Students have wanted it for years”, Whelehan said, and the provision of more plugs will offer “more study space” for students.
Commenting on the decision to The University Times , McNulty described it as “very important”, and emphasised how it would help students in years to come, especially around exam time. Last summer, 63 plugs were added to the library by College.
The library will soon post information relating to the installations on their website.
