Popular doughnut chain Offbeat Donuts will set up in the House Six shop on the Monday of Freshers’ Week.

Calling themselves “Dublin’s finest donuts”, Offbeat Donuts has been a firm Trinity favourite since the opening of a shop on Westland Row on the east end of campus. The brand, which only celebrated its first birthday in May of this year, has grown from strength to strength and now boasts four shops across Dublin.

To mark the launch of their House Six shop, Offbeat Donuts will be premiering a new Kinder Bueno doughnut which won’t be available in their other outlets until Tuesday.

The partnership between Trinity College Dublin Students’ Union (TCDSU) and Offbeat Donuts comes after the on-campus shops recorded a loss of more than €6,500 in the financial year which ended June 30th, 2016. This followed a profit of €13,200 the previous year, reflecting the difficult climate for small businesses in the city centre.

Speaking in a press statement, Kevin Keane, President of TCDSU, said that he is “really delighted” to begin this partnership. Keane continued that it was “a proud moment” for him to see one of his main manifesto points, the upgrade of the union shop, achieved.

“Offbeat is without question the best donut in the city and it is going to be dangerous having them so close to my office! I really think that students are going to appreciate the value and quality that they offer”, added Keane.

A competition to win your height in doughnuts will be run throughout Freshers’ Week along with free doughnut vouchers in every TCDSU freshers’ pack.
